NTA Cancels Three UGC‑NET Papers and Sets September Re‑exams

An expert review uncovered widespread factual, translation and formatting errors in the papers, prompting re‑tests scheduled without extra fees.

Overview

  • The National Testing Agency cancelled the UGC‑NET June 2026 exams for English, Commerce and Sociology and scheduled re‑examinations for September 9 and September 10, 2026 with no additional fee for candidates.
  • An NTA‑appointed expert committee found serious flaws in the three papers, including factual mistakes, wrong scholar names, repeated old questions, and translation, typing and grammar errors that the agency said could not be fixed through the paid challenge process.
  • NTA released provisional answer keys and candidate response sheets for the CSIRUGC NET on August 16 and opened an objections window through August 18 charging Rs. 200 per question for each challenge.
  • The agency said results, JRF allocations and eligibility certificates for the other 84 UGC‑NET subjects will proceed on schedule and that allocated seat numbers will not be reduced for affected subjects.
  • The cancellations have triggered political criticism and administrative action, with opposition leaders demanding accountability and the education ministry ordering audits and senior staff changes at NTA to strengthen exam security.
