Overview
- The NT Government pledged A$36 million annually and unveiled a domestic, family and sexual violence roadmap while fully supporting 21 of Coroner Armitage’s 35 recommendations and accepting 11 in principle.
- Three proposals were declined: creating a DFSV peak body, indexing grants for frontline services and trialling a banned drinkers’ register in licensed venues.
- Opposition MLA Chansey Paech and a coalition of specialist DFSV services criticised the response as underwhelming and harmful to community trust due to poor sector consultation.
- Service providers say the roadmap still lacks a Territory-wide workforce strategy, long-term indexed funding and dedicated support for Aboriginal-led initiatives.
- A follow-up inquest is scheduled for August 2025 to review the territory’s progress on implementing the coroner’s recommendations.
