Overview

  • Upper house crossbenchers and Coalition MPs backed a motion to send the reforms to the Public Accountability and Works Committee, halting debate indefinitely.
  • The committee will scrutinise the data underpinning the proposed increase in the Whole of Person Impairment threshold from 20% to 30%, or 31%, for psychological injury claims.
  • Treasurer Daniel Mookhey warned that Coalition amendments could cost NSW $1.9 billion and emphasised the scheme’s current $5 million daily deficit.
  • Unions, medical practitioners and legal experts have criticised the changes for restricting long-term compensation for workers with serious psychological injuries.
  • Greens MLC Abigail Boyd will chair the inquiry alongside Coalition MLCs Damien Tudehope and Sarah Mitchell, and independents Mark Latham and Taylor Martin.
