NSW Unveils $50 Million Plan to Halve Moore Park Golf Course for 20-Hectare Civic Park

Public feedback runs to November 24 during an active campaign by golf groups to retain 18 holes.

Overview

  • Draft plans propose converting roughly half of the 18-hole course into a civic park featuring a community sports field, multipurpose courts, lit walking and cycling paths, playgrounds and picnic areas.
  • Golf would continue on a reconfigured nine-hole layout with an expanded 90-bay driving range and an 18-hole mini-golf addition.
  • The state budget allocates $50 million, with work to begin after the current lease expires in June 2026, staged openings from late 2026 and completion targeted by the end of 2028.
  • An alliance of Moore Park Golf Club, Golf NSW, Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia is lobbying to keep the full 18-hole course and has put forward a counterproposal.
  • The government cites rising population near the site, projecting nearly 790,000 residents within five kilometres by 2041, as supporters and public figures including Mark Wahlberg draw wider attention to the debate.
