• NSW public school students from Year 5 and above will receive free access to the NSWEduChat app from the start of Term 4.
• The department-developed chatbot is designed not to provide full answers, encouraging students to reason through guided prompts.
• Acting Education Minister Courtney Houssos says the tool filters content and secures student data to create a safe learning environment.
• A 50-school trial found students used the app for writing feedback, brainstorming, creating quizzes, planning responses, and virtual assistance.
• A separate version for teachers is already available to help reduce workload, following a policy shift from early bans and a 2023 national framework for generative AI in schools.
