NSW Police Officer Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Death of 95-Year-Old Clare Nowland

Senior Constable Kristian White was convicted of manslaughter for using a Taser on 95-year-old Clare Nowland during a 2023 incident at a Cooma nursing home.
Nowland, who was holding a serrated knife, suffered a fatal head injury after falling when White deployed the Taser; she died a week later in the hospital.
Justice Ian Harrison ruled that White will remain on bail under strict conditions until sentencing submissions are heard in February 2025.
White has been suspended from the NSW Police Force without pay, and his future employment is under review by the police commissioner.
The jury found White's use of force was not reasonably necessary, and if sentenced to prison, he will likely be placed in protective custody due to his status as a former police officer.
