NSW Police Name Person of Interest as Manhunt Intensifies in Kearsley Homicide

Officers were called to the home after a domestic violence report.

Overview

  • Emergency services responded about 7:30pm Friday to an Ellalong Street address in Kearsley, near Cessnock, where a woman believed to be 39 was found deceased.
  • Police named Christopher James McLoughney, 37, as a person of interest and said he may be in the Cessnock, Lower Hunter or Newcastle areas.
  • He is described as Caucasian, about 175cm tall, with very short red hair, and is believed to have been in a relationship with the victim.
  • Superintendent Steve Laksa said the scene was traumatic for responding officers, with three children present and one seeking help from neighbors.
  • Specialist forensic officers and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are assisting, and police urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
