NSW Police Charge Kazakh Couple in Alleged A$1.18 Million Crown Casino Cheating Scheme

Police say a tiny camera spotted on a Mickey Mouse T-shirt led to arrests after weeks of unusually large winnings.

Overview

  • A 36-year-old woman and her 44-year-old husband were arrested at Crown Sydney in Barangaroo after staff noticed a discreet camera attached to her clothing.
  • Investigators allege the pair used a hidden pinhole camera, phone attachments including a custom mirror, and deep-seated earpieces to capture card images and receive wagering instructions.
  • Police said items seized included magnetised probes, batteries, casino chips, gambling props, high-end jewellery and about €2,000 from their Kent Street accommodation.
  • The couple, who arrived from Kazakhstan in October and allegedly won A$1,179,412.50 over multiple visits, have been charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and were refused bail.
  • The husband is due at Downing Centre Local Court on 11 December and the wife in February, with NSW Police highlighting close collaboration with casino security and saying no additional suspects are being sought.
