Overview

  • From July 1, light vehicle drivers on the Pacific and Hume highways will face fines following a two-month warning period.
  • Speeding detections among cars and motorbikes fell from one in 122 vehicles to one in 235 on the Pacific Highway and to one in 194 on the Hume Highway during the warning phase.
  • The state has extended average speed camera enforcement to include cars and motorbikes for the first time, aligning its approach with other jurisdictions.
  • Transport NSW reports 182 road fatalities to June 30, with speeding blamed for 59 deaths so far this year.
  • The trial targets regional highways after figures showed roads outside Sydney, where one-third of residents live, account for two-thirds of the state’s road toll.
