NSW Authorities Scale Back Search for Missing Fisherman at Bushrangers Bay

Targeted patrols will continue following days of weather‑hampered operations.

Overview

  • The 34-year-old was last seen on December 21 at 2pm fishing on a rock shelf at Bushrangers Bay, Shell Cove.
  • Personal belongings found on the rocks at about 7:40pm that night prompted a multi-agency search.
  • Lake Illawarra Police, NSW Police Marine Area Command and divers, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving, the Lifesaver helicopter and the SES were deployed, including a parallel line search from Bombo to Black Head by Shellharbour 30 and Shoalhaven 30.
  • A police helicopter searched until midnight and resumed at first light the next day before poor weather forced the aircraft to stand down at 3:15pm during later efforts.
  • By 1pm on December 24 the large-scale operation was reduced, with Marine Area Command and Surf Life Saving set to continue focused searches in the coming days.
