NSPP Concludes Fifth Directors’ Training Programme for SOE Boards

SECP approval signals a push to professionalize board stewardship, raising governance training standards.

Overview

  • The Executive Development Institute of the National School of Public Policy ran the three-day Directors’ Training Programme from August 19–21 and handed certificates to 21 participants from federal and provincial departments and the private sector.
  • The course was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and focused on making board members more accountable through clearer legal duties, stronger audit and internal controls, and better reporting.
  • Sessions combined case studies and board simulations with practical modules on risk management, cybersecurity, digitisation, SOE reforms, competitive neutrality and public service obligations.
  • Prominent governance and finance figures led sessions, including former SECP commissioner Abdul Rehman Warraich, former State Bank governor Tariq Bajwa and adviser Dr Ishrat Hussain, offering participants direct access to regulator and finance expertise.
  • NSPP framed the programme as an effort to set a benchmark for ongoing SOE capacity building but organisers did not announce immediate policy or structural changes at participating enterprises, so the next step to show impact will be whether trained directors change board practices and disclosure in their organisations.
