NS&I Flags £103m in Unclaimed Premium Bonds as 2.5 Million Prizes Go Uncollected

Overview

  • NS&I says more than 2.5 million Premium Bonds prizes worth over £103 million remain unclaimed, including 11 prizes of £50,000, 38 of £25,000 and 75 of £10,000.
  • Dorset has 31,565 unclaimed prizes totalling £1,174,800, with the largest unclaimed locally at £10,000 from a November 2019 draw.
  • Hertfordshire’s unclaimed total tops £2.1 million, with the largest individual unclaimed prize at £25,000 from September 2021.
  • NS&I data show long-term inactivity is common, with over 162,000 Dorset accounts and 246,795 Hertfordshire accounts dormant for more than 20 years, holding more than £11 million and £19 million respectively.
  • NS&I reports paying out over 99% of prizes since 1957 and is promoting its prize checker, tracing services and direct-to-bank payments, noting nine in ten prizes are now paid this way.
