Overview
- The National Stock Exchange will push the normal close of equity derivatives (F&O) from 3:30 PM to 3:40 PM, a change the exchange said will take effect on August 3, 2026.
- The extension covers both index and stock futures and options and does not change the pre-open or normal open at 9:15 AM or the trade modification end time of 4:15 PM.
- The exchange will shift the volume-weighted average price window to 15:10–15:40 to match the new close and will reset stock-futures price bands to plus or minus 3% of a freshly calculated reference price before the Closing Auction Session.
- NSE said the change initially applies only to securities that already have active derivative contracts and asked members to update trading systems and risk controls to handle the extra closing minutes.
- The adjustment follows the March introduction of a Closing Auction Session in the cash market and is intended to reduce cash-derivative mismatches, improve liquidity at the close, and make hedging and large-order execution easier for traders.
