NSE Cuts Lot Sizes for Key Index Derivatives Effective Oct. 28

The exchange is recalibrating contract sizes to keep notional values within SEBI’s Rs 15–20 lakh band under its periodic review framework.

Overview

  • Nifty 50 lot size will drop to 65 from 75, Bank Nifty to 30 from 35, Nifty Financial Services to 60 from 65, and Nifty Mid Select to 120 from 140, while Nifty Next 50 stays at 25.
  • The revised sizes take effect for newly introduced contracts from the end of trading on Oct. 28, 2025.
  • Weekly and monthly contracts will shift to the new sizes from the January 2026 expiry, with quarterly and half‑yearly contracts updated at the end of Dec. 30, 2025.
  • NSE calculated the revisions using average closing levels of each index in September 2025 to align with SEBI’s minimum contract value of Rs 15 lakh.
  • The day spread order book will be unavailable for Nov 2025–Jan 2026, Dec 2025–Jan 2026, and Dec 2025–Feb 2026 combinations, and members are instructed to notify clients and update trading systems.
