NSE, BSE Shut Oct. 21–22 for Diwali, Muhurat Trading Set for Oct. 21 Afternoon

With an afternoon Muhurat window, investors should plan around staggered bank holidays.

Overview

  • Regular trading will run as usual on Monday, October 20, before full market holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada.
  • Muhurat Trading will be held on Tuesday, October 21, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a pre-open from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm across NSE and BSE segments including equities, F&O, currencies, commodities and SLB.
  • This year’s Muhurat session moves to the afternoon from recent evening slots and is largely ceremonial, historically drawing lighter volumes and optimistic sentiment.
  • Banks will observe state-wise closures from October 20 to 23 under the RBI calendar, restricting branch services while UPI, net banking and ATMs remain available.
  • The exchanges list 14 market holidays for 2025; following Diwali, the next closures are on November 5 for Guru Nanak Jayanti and December 25 for Christmas.
