NSA Office Launches Probe Into Alleged GPS Spoofing at Delhi Airport

The National Cybersecurity Coordinator is leading a multi-agency review to determine if a cyberattack, technical fault or deliberate interference triggered the Nov. 7 ATC failure.

Overview

  • More than 800 flights were delayed and at least 20 were canceled after an air traffic control messaging failure at IGI Airport on November 7.
  • Pilots reported false position data and spurious terrain warnings within roughly 60 nautical miles of Delhi, consistent with GPS spoofing reports.
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India are participating in the investigation launched by the NSA’s office.
  • Controllers shifted to ground-based systems and crews used manual navigation as several flights diverted to nearby airports including Jaipur and Lucknow.
  • The NCSC under Navin Kumar Singh is coordinating with agencies such as CERT-In and MeitY while investigators collect technical and operational evidence.
