NRW’s Kommunalwahl-Navi to Launch in Duisburg, Essen and Oberhausen Next Week

Developed by the NRW School of Governance at the University of Duisburg-Essen in partnership with the University of Münster, the digital guide targets younger, undecided voters through city-specific policy theses.

Overview

  • The Kommunalwahl-Navi will be available online in Bochum from August 13 and in Duisburg, Essen and Oberhausen on August 15.
  • Regional partners designed the tool for eight North Rhine-Westphalia cities to standardize general and local policy theses for all participating parties and lists.
  • The platform aims to boost turnout by engaging younger and undecided voters with interactive comparisons of party positions.
  • Duisburg’s section covers acquiring derelict buildings for demolition or modernization, establishing car-free zones at accident hotspots and mandating green roofs and façades on municipal projects.
  • Municipalities across NRW continue to recruit thousands of poll workers ahead of the September 14 council, mayoral and district elections.
