Overview

  • Three additional learning assessments will be introduced in grades 2, 5 and 7, increasing NRW’s total to five standardized performance checks.
  • Pilot testing for the new grade-5 screenings begins in the 2025/26 school year with full statewide implementation of all assessments by 2029/30.
  • A digital portal will collect student feedback on well-being and socio-emotional development through questions on classroom routines and home support.
  • Starting next school year, primary schools will add one lesson per grade level in German and mathematics and institute a weekly mandatory reading period of three 20-minute sessions.
  • All measures fall under the Schulkompass 2030 framework designed to monitor progress and target support against long-term declines in core skills.
