NRW Backs Glyndŵr National Park Designation, Keeps Proposed Boundary

Ministers will consider the case following a 16 January–15 February public notice period.

Overview

  • Natural Resources Wales’ board concluded the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley meet statutory tests for national park status and retained the consultation boundary.
  • The designation order will be publicly available online and in regional public buildings during the notice window, with all submissions forwarded to the Welsh Government afterward.
  • NRW reported 1,678 consultation responses with 53% in favour, 14% offering conditional support, and 31% opposed; local residents showed 47% support and 35% opposition.
  • An independent survey by two Wrexham councillors recorded 1,015 against and two in favour, but NRW excluded it from official analysis citing differing methodology and data protection concerns.
  • Thirteen requested boundary changes were rejected, councils have lodged objections over funding, governance and community impacts, and a public inquiry is possible before a final ministerial decision.
