Palisades Nuclear Power Plant

Overview

  • The Nuclear Regulatory Commission formally reinstated Palisades’s operating license and approved its transition from decommissioning to active service.
  • Holtec is set to receive fresh nuclear fuel in late July and has authority to switch licensed reactor operators to on-shift status.
  • A final NRC review of Holtec’s steam generator tube sleeving repair plan is due by the end of September amid an ongoing challenge from environmental group Beyond Nuclear.
  • Restart efforts have attracted $1.5 billion in Department of Energy loans and $300 million in state funding to underwrite repairs and operations.
  • Once online, the 800 MW reactor will supply carbon-free baseload power for roughly 800,000 homes and pave the way for future small modular reactors at the site.
