NPR Veteran Tapped to Lead USA TODAY

Terence Samuel has been named the next editor in chief of USA TODAY.
Samuel currently oversees newsgathering at NPR News and previously held senior positions at the Washington Post and National Journal.
Samuel succeeds Nicole Carroll, who stepped down in May.
Gannett, USA TODAY's publisher, hopes Samuel will accelerate the newspaper's digital transformation as it struggles under debt from a recent merger.
The move comes as hundreds of Gannett journalists plan to protest over the company's leadership.
