Overview

  • From August 1, UPI users will be limited to 50 daily balance inquiries and 25 linked-account views per app.
  • Failed transaction status checks will be capped at three per two-hour window, with mandatory pauses between attempts.
  • Recurring payments and autopay mandates will be processed only during designated off-peak hours.
  • All banks and payment apps must comply to prevent excessive API traffic from overloading NPCI’s infrastructure.
  • NPCI says the measures will bolster system resilience after early-year slowdowns and build on June’s performance and security upgrades.
