NPCI Forms Wholly Owned Tech Subsidiary to Lead AI and Blockchain Work

The new unit is meant to scale AI, blockchain and digital public infrastructure services beyond NPCI’s payments role, with investment and rollout plans left unspecified.

Overview

  • NPCI announced on Wednesday that it has legally formed NPCI Tech Solutions Limited (NTSL) as a wholly owned technology and innovation arm focused on AI, blockchain and digital financial infrastructure.
  • The organisation appointed its long‑time chief technology officer Vishal Kanvaty as managing director and CEO to lead NTSL and to maintain continuity with NPCI’s existing engineering teams.
  • NTSL’s remit covers global capability centre services and technology support for India’s digital public infrastructure programmes such as eKYC Setu and the Unified Ticketing Platform.
  • NPCI framed the move as a response to advances in AI and emerging technologies but did not disclose NTSL’s investment size, revenue targets, customer pipeline or product rollout timelines.
  • The subsidiary formalises prior NPCI initiatives — including the AiNxt and AtOM enterprise platforms and a research partnership with IISc on AI and blockchain — and could extend those tools beyond core payments if commercial plans are announced.
