Overview

  • Swansea Crown Court imposed a 20-month youth detention suspended for 18 months, along with a two-year driving ban, an extended driving test requirement, 250 hours of unpaid work and 15 days of rehabilitation.
  • Jack Hale admitted four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after his Ford Fiesta, carrying five passengers including a child on a passenger’s lap, veered off the A487 and rolled into Newgale Campsite.
  • Collision investigators found Hale was travelling at up to 66mph when he lost control entering a 30mph zone and uncovered no mechanical faults, discounting his claim that a rock thrown by the tide caused the crash.
  • Nine holidaymakers were injured in the August 2023 incident, with three campers requiring surgery for fractures and third-degree burns, while two tents containing young children emerged from the crash without serious harm.
  • Around 15 emergency vehicles responded to the scene and passersby joined crews in lifting the overturned car to free victims who had been pinned under the vehicle.
