Notting Hill Carnival Ends With 423 Arrests as Police Report Fewer Serious Incidents

Police credit live facial recognition for curbing serious violence compared with 2024.

Overview

  • Metropolitan Police recorded 223 arrests on Monday and 200 on Sunday, with 177 and 149 respectively inside the event area and the rest on approaches.
  • Two people were stabbed in Powis Terrace and Oxford Gardens, and police said neither injury was life-threatening.
  • Officers used live facial recognition, knife arches and stop-and-search, and 52 arrests followed identifications made by the facial recognition system.
  • British Transport Police made 30 arrests across the two days and reported four officers assaulted, while a separate Tube brawl at Baker Street was captured on video.
  • Organisers said the higher arrest total reflected a proactive operation and added that arrests were a small fraction of attendees compared with 2024, when two people died and eight were stabbed.
