Notre Dame's Bells Return Ahead of December Reopening
Eight restored bells have been blessed and are set to be reinstalled as the cathedral prepares to reopen after a five-year restoration effort.
- The bells, ranging from 4 tonnes to 782 kg, were cleaned and renovated in Normandy before their return to Paris.
- Notre Dame Cathedral will officially reopen on December 7, after extensive repairs following the 2019 fire.
- The bells are seen as a symbol of the cathedral’s rebirth and will be reinstalled in the northern belfry.
- Reconstruction has involved over 250 companies and hundreds of craftsmen, celebrated in the recent Olympic Games' opening ceremony.
- Notre Dame, a major tourist attraction, previously welcomed 12-14 million visitors annually before the fire.
