Notre-Dame Restoration Enters New Phase One Year After Reopening

Crews now focus on exterior consolidation—flying buttresses, rose windows—under a program extending to 2030.

Overview

  • The public agency Rebâtir Notre-Dame says some flying buttresses will be rebuilt and others restored as the next major step.
  • Wooden centring installed after the 2019 fire will remain for now to compensate for missing structural support.
  • The large rose windows will be removed for workshop restoration and temporarily replaced by printed-glass reproductions of their designs and colors.
  • Scaffolding and daily work continue on the exterior, including around the chevet, as specialists restore parts not addressed before reopening.
  • Further phases, notably the sacristy and the parvis, are scheduled toward completion by 2030 as visitor numbers stay high.
