Notre-Dame Reopens Restored Twin Towers With New Visitor Route

The milestone caps the second and final public phase of the cathedral’s post-fire reconstruction.

Overview

  • President Emmanuel Macron toured the renovated path on Friday as the towers were inaugurated.
  • Public access begins Saturday on a redesigned route that links the towers and features a 178-step double spiral oak staircase in the south tower.
  • A previously closed cistern courtyard that connects the towers is now open to visitors for the first time.
  • The cathedral’s great bells, including the 13.3-ton Emmanuel and the 6.2-ton Marie, have been rehung on new support beams after checks following the 2019 fire.
  • Tickets cost €16 and are available only online, with the first day selling out in under half an hour.
