Nothing to Let Users Remove Meta Services From 3a Phones After Backlash

The company is using preinstalls to support cheaper hardware on non-flagship models.

Overview

  • Later this month, a Nothing OS 4.0 beta/update will add a built-in option to uninstall Meta App Installer, Meta App Manager, and Meta Services on Phone (3a) devices.
  • The update follows an initial OS 4.0 approach that only allowed disabling those system components rather than removing them.
  • Lock Glimpse, which delivers lock-screen content, will remain preinstalled on affected phones but can be disabled.
  • Nothing will present curated app recommendations during device setup only, and the suggestions can be skipped.
  • TikTok is preinstalled only in the EU, UK, and Japan, and these changes apply to the 3a series rather than the flagship Phone 3.
