Nothing OS 4.0 Debuts on Android 16 With AI Usage Dashboard, Pop-up Multitasking and ‘Extra Dark’ Mode

Nothing will begin the rollout on Phone 3, leaving Phone 1 outside the update path.

Overview

  • Nothing officially unveiled Nothing OS 4.0 and said an open beta is coming soon, without a specific date.
  • The new AI Usage Dashboard surfaces which models are active and when, with reports citing Whisper, GPT-4o and Gemini Flash among those tracked, plus status hints and notifications for transparency.
  • Pop-up View introduces desktop-like productivity by letting two apps run in floating windows with quick gestures to minimize or expand to full screen.
  • A unified visual refresh adds redesigned lock screen clocks and cleaner Quick Settings, an ‘Extra Dark’ true-black theme for OLED-friendly contrast, more AOD options and a more responsive brightness slider.
  • Nothing says Phone 3 gets the update first, older Nothing and CMF devices follow, and Phone 1 is excluded; eligible Phone 1 and Phone 2 owners can claim £/$300 off Phone 3 by verifying their IMEI before October 3, 2025.
