Norwich Council to Decide Friday on 24/7 McDonald’s at Mousehold Lane

Police back the plan only if CCTV conditions are met.

Overview

  • Councillors meet on September 19 at 10:30am at City Hall to rule on McDonald’s bid for round-the-clock trading at its Mousehold Lane drive-through.
  • More than 40 residents have formally objected, citing likely late-night noise, anti-social behaviour and fears of car meets.
  • Norfolk Police has raised no objection provided the restaurant installs compliant CCTV coverage.
  • McDonald’s says it will deploy security and noise controls including CCTV, panic buttons for staff, self-closing doors and litter patrols.
  • A 2022 council refusal was overturned by the Planning Inspectorate in May 2024, and the site—next to a 24-hour petrol station and near homes—has been under construction since April.
