Norwegian Police Launch Investigation into Ingebrigtsen Brothers' Allegations of Violence by their Father and Former Coach

Olympic athletes Jakob, Henrik, and Filip Ingebrigtsen accuse father Gjert of abusive behavior throughout their upbringing, resulting in a complex, criminal investigation led by Norwegian police.

  • Norwegian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into allegations of violence and abuse made by Olympic athletes Jakob, Henrik, and Filip Ingebrigtsen against their father, Gjert, who also acted as their coach.
  • The Ingebrigtsen brothers, who made public their allegations through a piece entitled 'This is Our Story' on a Norwegian website VG, claim that their father's aggressive, controlling behavior and physical violence were a major part of their upbringing.
  • Gjert Ingebrigtsen denies the allegations, calling them 'baseless,' and asserts that he has never used violence against his children. Gjert's lawyer, John Christian Elden, remains confident about the outcome of the investigation.
  • Two years ago, the Ingebrigtsen brothers cut ties with their father, escalating their conflict. Gjert is currently coaching Norwegian runner Narve Gilje Nordås, which further fuelled tensions with his sons.
  • After the brothers' allegations, the Norwegian Athletics Federation barred Gjert from the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
