Northern Railway Delivers First Auto Rake to Kashmir, Unloading 116 Cars at Anantnag

USBRL connectivity enables a 45-hour, 850-kilometre run from Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar terminal, creating a faster, cheaper alternative to the highway.

Overview

  • The rake arrived early Friday and was successfully unloaded at the newly operational Anantnag Goods Shed, completing a direct link from Manesar, Haryana.
  • The consignment comprised 116 Maruti Suzuki vehicles, including Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso models.
  • The train traversed the Chenab railway arch bridge built under the UdhampurSrinagar–Baramulla Rail Link project.
  • Maruti Suzuki says it is the first automaker to deliver vehicles to the Kashmir Valley by rail, supported by its in-plant Gati Shakti siding at Manesar.
  • Railway officials and local dealers expect shorter transit times and lower costs, building on earlier USBRL freight services for cement, perishables, essentials, and Army supplies.
