Northern Light Exits Anthem Network After Mediation Fails

Roughly 30,000 Anthem members now face out-of-network costs for Northern Light clinicians following the collapse of mediation.

Effective today, Northern Light primary and specialty care are out-of-network for Anthem commercial and employer plans, while Medicare Advantage coverage continues through year-end.
Northern Light hospital services remain in Anthem’s network through Dec. 31, 2025, and emergency care is covered at in-network rates under federal protections.
Anthem says it offered roughly a 5% rate increase and requested a short contract extension; Northern Light rejected the extension and called Anthem’s account of talks false.
Roughly 30,000 Mainers, including many state employees, now face higher costs or must find alternative in-network providers unless a new agreement is reached.
Patients in active treatment for serious conditions can apply for limited continuity-of-care coverage at in-network rates, subject to Anthem approval.
