Northern Launches 7:24am Whitby Service on Dec. 15 With £2 Advance Fares

The earlier departure aims to improve rural connectivity on the Esk Valley line.

Overview

  • The train reaches James Cook University Hospital before 9am, arrives in Middlesbrough at 9:00am and continues to Newcastle for 10:20am.
  • Advance tickets priced at £2 are available on selected Esk Valley services from 15 to 24 December, and must be booked ahead.
  • A through return service leaves Newcastle at 4:40pm, calling at the same intermediate stations.
  • Northern has added early‑morning trains into Whitby from Glaisdale, Grosmont, Sleights and Ruswarp as part of the timetable change.
  • The launch is backed by North Yorkshire Council and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, with Northern citing long‑standing customer requests and seasonal demand.
