Northern Confirms Targeted Timetable Changes From May 17

Small, route-specific tweaks aim to improve punctuality after customer feedback.

Overview

  • Northern will introduce its updated timetable on May 17 as part of the routine national change that happens each May and December.
  • Most trains keep their current times, with select services moving a few minutes earlier to help trains arrive on time.
  • In the North West, adjustments affect Clitheroe–Rochdale, Colne–Preston, Buxton–Manchester, and routes from Chinley, New Mills Central, and Rose Hill Marple into Manchester.
  • The Bransty Tunnel remains closed between Whitehaven and Carlisle, so trains run on either side with a replacement bus linking Corkickle and Whitehaven.
  • Sunday patterns continue to vary by line, with more direct Newcastle–Whitby trains and all-stations calling between Sheffield and Lincoln, while some routes retain a reduced Sunday timetable.
