Overview
- The northeast monsoon set in overnight, with Thoothukudi recording very heavy rain including 154 mm in Kayalpattinam and 146 mm in Tiruchendur in the 24 hours to 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
- District administrations declared school holidays for Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram as showers persisted and local flooding was reported.
- The IMD issued orange alerts for heavy to very heavy rain in Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram, with yellow alerts for other districts including Chennai and Kanyakumari.
