Overview
- NFR disclosed Tuesday it had deployed three home-built maintenance systems at the Kamakhya Coaching Depot to support the new sleeper service.
- The package includes an Air Spring Monitoring System that uses acoustic imaging to spot faults early and a Portable Vibration Monitoring setup for real-time checks on the sleeper rakes.
- An External Pit Power Supply with a pre-cooling setup now powers HVAC, lights, and diagnostics during overhead line shutdowns, which reduces electrocution risk and speeds rake turnaround.
- India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has run between Kamakhya and Howrah since January, and officials say the new tools aim to keep the premium service reliable.
- NFR also reported wider upgrades this fiscal, including 3,416 aerosol fire-suppression units in coach electrical panels, two accident-relief medical units commissioned, a test rake in Rangiya to improve weigh-bridge accuracy, and mid-life rehab of LHB coaches now underway.
