Overview
- Northeast Frontier Railway has finished redeveloping Majbat (Rangiya Division), Jalpaiguri Road (Alipurduar Division) and Haldibari (Katihar Division) as part of the central Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with reported costs of about Rs. 10.19 crore, Rs. 34.80 crore and Rs. 26 crore respectively.
- Each station received new passenger facilities including renovated station buildings, expanded circulating areas, larger waiting halls, modern booking counters, upgraded toilets and improved platform infrastructure.
- The projects added accessibility features such as ramps, tactile paving, Divyangjan-friendly toilets, reserved parking and information systems that aim to make travel easier for people with disabilities and caregivers.
- Majbat’s redevelopment preserves the station’s early-20th-century character while adding modern amenities, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to dedicate the renewed Majbat station, according to local reporting.
- The NFR says the redevelopments will shorten barriers to travel, boost tourism and local trade through initiatives like One Station One Product, and form part of a wider national push to modernize railway stations across India.
