Northeast Bamboo Conclave Seals MoUs to Build Bamboo Bio-Economy

The Guwahati meeting prioritized investment, CSR, homegrown technology to link the region’s bamboo to scalable markets by 2047.

Overview

  • Held on September 18 in Guwahati, the conclave was organised by NECBDC with support from the North Eastern Council, MDoNER and the National Bamboo Mission.
  • Organisers reported MoUs with Numaligarh Refinery and SELCO Foundation for CSR-driven work, along with agreements involving IIT Guwahati and NID Ahmedabad; SELCO served as Innovation Partner, FICCI as Industry Partner and the Assam State Bamboo Mission as State Partner, with support from NRL.
  • NECBDC also cited a recent MoU with the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute to co-develop indigenous bamboo-processing machines.
  • The program focused on “Promoting Investments, CSR and Bio-Economy” and outlined a pathway toward a Viksit Bamboo sector for a Viksit Northeast by 2047.
  • The push followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration earlier in the week of the ABEPL bamboo-to-ethanol plant at Numaligarh, which experts said could boost the region’s bamboo economy.
