Northbound I-5 to Shut From I-8 to Mission Bay Drive This Weekend

Caltrans says a full closure will speed a culvert replacement to improve safety.

Overview

  • All lanes on northbound I-5 between I-8 and Mission Bay Drive will close from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for culvert work and road repairs.
  • Drivers are advised to detour via SR-163, SR-15, and I-805, with motorists north of SR-163 directed to use I-8.
  • The Moore Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 in Old Town will close to limit traffic being funneled to I-8.
  • On-ramps at Camino Del Rio West, including Sea World Drive–Tecolote Road and Clairemont Drive, will be closed, while the northbound I-5 on-ramp from Mission Bay Drive will remain open.
  • Businesses near Damon Avenue should expect construction noise and lighting during the work, which is part of a $113.7 million pavement and culvert project.
