Northbound I-5 Through Mission Bay Shuts Down This Weekend for Concrete Slab Replacement

All lanes of northbound I-5 from I-8 to the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp close from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for slab replacement and related upgrades. Drivers are directed to use SR-163, I-15 or I-805, with traffic passing SR-163 detoured to eastbound or westbound I-8. On-ramp closures include Moore Street, the westbound I-8 Taylor Street on-ramp, Morena Boulevard, Camino Del Rio West, Sea World Drive/Tecolote Road and Clairemont Drive, while the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp remains open. Transit options persist with MTS routes to La Jolla and UTC operating, Route 30 on a brief detour, Route 105 on its usual schedule, Blue Line trolley service available and parking at Old Town and Balboa Avenue stations. This is the third of four scheduled northbound closures in a $113.8 million segment of a broader $623 million regional investment, with $113,745,800 allocated through the State Highway Operation Protection Program, and Caltrans urges heightened caution and notes expected noise and lighting.
