North-West England to Play Crucial Role in Upcoming General Election

Four possible outcomes range from Conservatives remaining the largest party to Labour forming its first government in 14 years.

  • The upcoming general election will be fought across a range of battlegrounds, with north-west England playing a crucial role. The region is home to the number one target seat for Labour, Burnley, and the chief target for the Conservatives, Warrington South.
  • Other key Conservative-Labour battlegrounds include the Midlands and Yorkshire, while most of the pivotal Conservative-Liberal Democrat contests are in southern England.
  • Scotland and Wales both hold opportunities for several parties to make gains. East Anglia could find itself largely overlooked during the campaign, with very few constituencies appearing on any battleground lists.
  • Four possible outcomes for the general election range from the Conservatives losing seats but remaining the largest party, to Labour making enough gains to form its first government in 14 years.
  • The top 50 targets have been listed for Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, with the top 10 for other parties. The lists are based on the size of the swing needed to gain the seat based on the notional outcome in 2019.
