The suspect, who broke into the store, fled on foot when confronted by police, leaving the cheese behind.
The cheese, having left refrigeration, was deemed unsellable by store staff.
Police are utilizing CCTV footage to identify the suspect, described as a Caucasian male wearing an Oakland Athletics cap.
