North Rhine-Westphalia Police to Roll Out Mobile Interrogation App

The app, paired with 2,500 new tablets, will allow police to conduct witness and suspect interviews directly at crime scenes or other locations starting February.

  • The NRW police will implement a new app designed for mobile interrogations, enabling officers to interview suspects, victims, and witnesses outside traditional police stations.
  • 2,500 tablets equipped with the app will be distributed across the state, targeting use by the criminal police and traffic departments.
  • The app has been tested since September in Aachen, Düren, and the State Criminal Police Office and is set for statewide deployment in February.
  • Key benefits include reducing delays in interviews, improving memory accuracy for witnesses, and eliminating the need for victims or witnesses to travel to police stations.
  • Future plans include adapting the app for interviewing children and trauma victims in familiar and secure environments to enhance their comfort.
