North Norfolk Council Approves Retrospective Permission for £6 Million Omaze Prize Home

The decision removes the legal obstacle to handing the prize home to its winner.

Overview

  • NNDC’s planning committee voted 10–2, with one abstention, to regularise works that diverged from the original approval.
  • The permission covers a single-storey east wing extension, summer house, swimming pool, tennis court and a four-bay garage.
  • Planning officers advised the additions would be acceptable under current or emerging policy, while objectors cited AONB harm including tree loss and meadow removal.
  • An anonymous tip prompted the probe that found the house was not built in accordance with approved plans; Omaze acquired the property after it was constructed.
  • Omaze says it will now finalise conveyancing to transfer the home, which was raffled in a BBC-backed draw that raised more than £4.1 million for Comic Relief.
