Overview
- On June 19 at around 10 a.m., North Korea launched about ten artillery rounds from a multiple rocket launcher in the Sunan district near Pyongyang toward the Yellow Sea.
- The launch followed a June 18 trilateral aerial exercise involving South Korean F-15K, U.S. F-16 and Japanese F-2 fighter jets, the first such drill under President Lee Jae-myung.
- The projectiles are believed to be 240mm rockets with a range covering Seoul and its suburbs and are under joint analysis by South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies.
- Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff say they are maintaining a robust military posture and closely monitoring North Korean movements for any further provocations.
- The weapon test comes as North Korea deepens military cooperation with Russia, including sending troops and equipment to Ukraine and dispatching engineers to rebuild Russia’s Kursk region.
