North Dakota Woman Accused of Poisoning Boyfriend Over False $30M Inheritance

Suspected murderer believed bogus email scam promising boyfriend's inheritance; autopsy revealed death by poisoning from antifreeze was cause of his unexpected demise.

  • Ina Thea Kenoyer, a 47-year-old woman from North Dakota, has been charged with the poisoning and murder of her boyfriend, Steven Edward Riley Jr., following his sudden and unexpected death from poisoning on September 5, 2023.
  • Kenoyer is alleged to have poisoned Riley with ethylene glycol, a main ingredient of antifreeze, after finding out that he planned to leave her after receiving a supposed inheritance of $30 million.
  • According to multiple accounts from Riley's friends, Kenoyer had made repeated statements about poisoning Riley with antifreeze before his death, and the authorities found containers suspected to contain antifreeze at the couple's home.
  • Despite Kenoyer's claims that she was due some of the inheritance as Riley's 'common law' wife, investigators informed her that such marriages are not recognized in North Dakota, leading her to become 'incensed'.
  • As of now, Kenoyer is facing a Class AA felony murder charge, the most severe murder charge in North Dakota, and could face life in prison if found guilty.
