North Carolina Woman Found Alive in Colorado After Months-Long Death Valley Search

The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office said no additional details will be released to protect Pittman and her family’s privacy.

  • The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office announced on July 23 that Pittman had been located alive and safe in Colorado after a multi-state search.
  • Search efforts ran from February through June and involved sheriff’s deputies, park rangers, drone teams, cadaver dog units and volunteer rescuers across harsh terrain.
  • Pittman’s white 2009 Chevrolet HHR was discovered on February 9 on private property just off Highway 190 near the boundary of Death Valley National Park.
  • Authorities only filed a missing-person report after contacting Pittman’s mother, with her last known contact occurring in Utah in November 2024.
