Norsk Tipping Apologizes to 47,000 Players as Regulators Probe Lottery Error

Regulators have launched an external review of Norsk Tipping’s controls after a manual conversion glitch inflated prize notifications.

Overview

  • On June 27 a manual coding mistake multiplied euro amounts by 100 instead of dividing, briefly showing inflated Eurojackpot winnings on Norsk Tipping’s website and app.
  • By June 28 the operator removed the incorrect figures and reloaded accurate prize amounts, with no erroneous payouts issued.
  • CEO Tonje Sagstuen resigned on June 29 over the error and has been replaced by acting CEO Vegar Strand, who is leading the response effort.
  • The Ministry of Culture and Equality and the Norwegian Lottery Authority have opened formal investigations and called for tighter operational and audit controls.
  • On July 1, Norsk Tipping sent apology texts to 47,000 affected players and pledged a comprehensive internal review of its conversion systems.
